Ephemera

Mr. MOVIEMAN

I remember our midnight talks
The truth is, I miss our midnight talks

But you weren't like a lover to me
And you were never that close to sisterhood
No, you were just a good friend
One of the best I ever had

I set aside our friendship
Over a petty disagreement
I thought I was opening your eyes
Showing you something you'd never seen
I couldn't have been more wrong
Now, you're happy without me
And I wish I could say the same

The truth is, all these years later
I still think about our midnight talks
Going to school the next day tired
It was always worth it if it was for you

When you were sad
I could almost always find a way
A way to escape
A way to heal
A way to talk to you
A way to say something beautiful to you
For that, I earned my moniker

The truth is, all these years later
When it's our birthday
I think about how you're doing
I wish you a happy birthday
From beyond the walls I set between us

We had learned each other's names
The next week, we were great friends
And I hope you find this one day
I'm not searching for a solution
I just want you to know

When the clock hits midnight
And I'm trying to find someone to talk to
You always come to mind
Even though you and I will never speak again
