I love you, Canary
And I know I'm horrible at expressing it
Even in this book, where all I can write are my wrongs
But love to me isn't perfect
It's bumpy, it's rough
It's imperfect and that's okay
Little Miss, you've changed the way my brain works
In your eyes, I know I'm close to perfect
But the truth is, I know I'm far from it
And girl, you're so beautiful
When you put on the red dress next, I'll be there
And I know what happened last time
But you're not crying in a red dress anymore
Once daylight breaks, you and I will be perfect
Together, rejecting solace
The only consolation, the only tranquility
Is when you're here, next to me
Loving me in spite of sin
We're beautiful in repose, even more so awake
And I don't know if you noticed
But Canary, the words I'm saying
They're all words you've heard before
So dance with me baby, even if it's raining
Canary, your crimson wings will carry you through it
I know you're strong enough,
I know you're beautiful enough
Is it bad to have these guilty desires?
Because baby, when they're not fulfilled,
I feel like a ghost
But even asking these questions feels incorrect
In another dream, maybe this would be okay
But here, in this plane of existence
Where you're destined for greatness
And all I want is to be by the sea
Maritime peace or a kiss on the cheek
The truth is, darling, this is another poem about you
Because I'm too lovestruck to write anything else
Baby, you and I are onto something
The flames of our love are burning strong
The aching of my heart is duly noted
But during our dark ages, a Canary Tragedy
Will you love me when I've gone?
Will you accept my redeeming qualities
Even if it provides nothing for us?
Baby, you're love is giving me this high
And I'm just barely coming down now
When we're holding hands, kissing and hugging
Telling each other The Forever Story
When you write my Canary Eulogy
And when I come back with my theatrics
I know exactly what'll happen to us
We are something, Canary
And I know whose number to call when I need loving
When I need a reminder that you want me to love myself
I have books and rocks and things to remember you by
When you're gone in the wind, doing your thing
And yeah, I'm Tired, Canary, but I don't care
I don't care about the whiplash or the vignette
I don't care about the hanger
Or you and I in the Blackbox
All I care about is loving you
There's hoodies and date nights and things I'll forget
I promise I don't do it on purpose
I'm just fading now, slowly but surely
But our hopeless romantic fantasies will live on
We can skip the blah blah blah
We can skip the "they call me the General"
Eating Chinese food, staying at my house tonight
Reading and discussing your novels, your orgullo
Sleeping by the blue light
This is what I care about
This and your Canary Love
And at the end of it all,
When we're cuddling and just talking and stuff
I'll be a happy man, knowing you're my Canary
Knowing you're my lover
Canary Love
