Canary Love

Poem 21

Hoodies and Date Nights and Things I'll Forget

I hate myself
And I'm too good at expressing it
In the Blackbox, my memory is fading now
In these raw poems I wrote because I love you

But I'm going to forget it all now
The hoodies I gave you
The date nights I took you on
The family gatherings I attended
The books I wrote in your name
The songs I sung for you
The soul I sold for you

The hoodies I gave you
I can't remember their design
If they were cool or not
If you liked them or not

The date nights I took you on
They're leaving my brain,
I remember the museum
I remember you

The family gatherings I attended
The three little brothers
Their names glimmer faintly in my memory
Not enough to recall

The books I wrote in your name
This one, a lost cause
The original novel, lost to time
The future novel, preserved in the future

The songs I sung for you
When my voice was able and beautiful
Back when I had passions to call my own
Now, my only passions are you

The soul I sold for you
I don't need to say anything else
